The chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Justice Simon Byabakama, has assured the public that all ballot papers for tomorrow’s highly anticipated Kawempe North by-election are secure in his custody.
His remarks come following concerns about alleged pre-ticked ballot papers found at a residence in Nammere, Kawempe Division. Byabakama stated that these papers could be “fake” and not from the Electoral Commission, allaying fears of possible electoral malpractice.

In a related development, Kampala North Metropolitan Police Commander Gerald Tushiime issued a stern warning to those attempting to disrupt the election process.
During a key stakeholders’ meeting at the tally centre at Makerere University, Tushiime announced that any vehicles found without license plates during the by-election will be impounded, and their owners will face legal action.

The warning follows reports that some supporters of candidates vying to replace the late MP Muhammad Ssegirinya may plan to use unregistered vehicles to perpetrate electoral-related offences.
As the by-election approaches, security forces and electoral officials remain on high alert, ensuring a smooth and fair voting process for the residents of Kawempe North.
