The nation is in shock following the sudden death of businessman and Managing Director of the Ruparelia Group, Rajiv Ruparelia, who perished in a fatal motor accident in the wee hours of Saturday morning.
According to preliminary reports, the accident occurred at 1:54am as Rajiv’s vehicle was travelling from Kajjansi towards Munyonyo.
The driver is said to have lost control after the vehicle struck temporary pavements installed at the roundabout section of the Kajjansi flyover. The impact caused the vehicle to veer off the road, resulting in Rajiv’s untimely death.
Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson,Luke Owoyesigyire comfirmed the incident on X .

Aged 35, Rajiv was a prominent figure in Uganda’s business community and had increasingly taken on leadership roles in the vast business empire built by his father, Sudhir Ruparelia—one of the country’s most influential entrepreneurs.

In a statement released this morning, the Ruparelia family confirmed the tragic news:
“The family of Sudhir and Jyotsna Ruparelia would like to inform all family, friends and in-laws of the sudden death of their son, Rajiv Ruparelia. Rajiv died in a car accident at 2:44am. He was 35 years old and is survived by a daughter of three years. May his soul rest in peace.”
Rajiv had gained a reputation as a forward-thinking leader, known for his role in modernizing the operations of the Ruparelia Group, which spans sectors such as real estate, hospitality, finance, and education.
His passing is a major loss not only to his family but also to the business landscape of Uganda, where he was widely seen as the torchbearer of a legacy that has significantly shaped the country’s private sector.
Details regarding burial arrangements and memorial services are expected to be released by the family in due course.
