The Inspectorate of Government (IGG) has recovered Shs4 billion from corrupt individuals over the past year, according to the latest report presented to Parliament.
The report was officially received by Hon. Esther Afoyochan, Commissioner of Parliament, who represented Speaker Anita Among at the handover ceremony on Monday.
Speaking during the event, Hon. Afoyochan commended the IGG for its relentless efforts in fighting corruption and pledged to advocate for increased budgetary support to empower the institution to fully execute its mandate.
“I commit to make a strong case within Parliament to ensure that the IGG receives the resources it needs to continue this crucial work,” Afoyochan said.
The IGG, Hon. Beti Olive Namisango Kamya, revealed that the Inspectorate had successfully recovered Shs4 billion from corrupt officials within the reporting period.
She noted that the funds were returned to the Consolidated Fund and underscored the importance of adequate financing to enhance investigations, prosecutions, and public awareness campaigns against corruption.
“This achievement is proof that with the right tools and support, we can root out corruption and restore integrity in public service,” Kamya emphasized.
The IGG also urged Parliament to support the Inspectorate’s strategic plans, including digital surveillance systems and the whistleblower protection program, which she described as key to sustaining the anti-corruption drive.
