Kasese Municipal Council has called for the transfer of the Municipal Town Clerk, Mr. Godfrey Bamanyisa, over allegations of financial mismanagement involving Shs112 million.
The move follows concerns raised by the Mayor of Kasese Municipality, His Worship Chance Kahindo, who accused Mr. Bamanyisa of authorizing expenditures beyond the council’s approval. The money in question was meant for the construction of Katarasa Road in Bulembia Division.
Mayor Kahindo said council initially approved Shs93 million for the road works. However, the Town Clerk allegedly went on to spend an additional Shs140 million without authorization, which the Mayor described as unlawful and tantamount to corruption.
He confirmed that he had written to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government requesting Mr. Bamanyisa’s transfer.
During the heated council session, Mr. Thomas Adyeeri, the councilor for Umoja, Kisagazi, and Kizungu cells, noted that the office of the Town Clerk had repeatedly been implicated in cases of alleged financial mismanagement.
Mr. Bamanyisa was absent from the meeting but was represented by Mr. Faisal Komungaro, the Senior Assistant Town Clerk for Central Division. Mr. Komungaro requested that council allow time to prepare a detailed report, to be submitted to sectoral committees.
Kasese Municipal Council Speaker, Mr. Swaibu Ukash Musenene, ruled that Mr. Bamanyisa must appear before council this Friday to formally respond to the allegations.
