Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has embarked on a political mobilisation campaign in the Busoga sub-region to strengthen support for President Yoweri Museveni and the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).
Speaking to hundreds of residents at Namayingo Secondary School in Bukooli South on Saturday, Among thanked supporters for overwhelmingly backing her recent election as Second National Vice Chairperson (Female) of the NRM.
She pledged to use her new role on the Central Executive Committee (CEC) to consolidate the party’s presence in Busoga.
“I have come here to appreciate the people of Namayingo for voting for me. For me, I am not looking for any other vote now. I am asking you to vote for the President,” Among told cheering crowds. She urged residents to rally behind NRM’s flag bearers, stressing that the party’s track record in delivering peace, security, and infrastructure made it the best vehicle for development.
Taking aim at the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP), which won big in Busoga during the 2021 elections, Among dismissed the notion of “protest votes.” She argued that voting against the NRM would undermine the stability and progress achieved under President Museveni.
Local leaders, however, used the platform to voice pressing concerns. Bukooli South MP Abdul Adidwa called for an industrial park to spur jobs and productivity, while Namayingo District Chairperson Ronald Sanya decried land grabbing, poverty, and inadequate health services, with patients reportedly travelling up to six hours by boat to the district’s only Health Centre IV. Among promised to forward these issues to the President.
From Namayingo, the Speaker proceeded to Bugiri District, where she was received by Bukooli Central MP Solomon Silwany. Residents there raised grievances including lack of electricity and land conflicts.
Among capped her visit by welcoming youths who had defected from opposition parties to NRM. She also announced financial pledges to strengthen local party structures, support SACCOs, and empower women and youth groups.
Her tour, she emphasized, was primarily to mobilize support for President Museveni and NRM candidates at all levels ahead of the 2026 elections.
