The House of Bishops of the Church of Uganda, meeting at Lweza Training and Conference Centre, has elected Rev. Canon Associate Professor Dr. Grace Lubaale as the new Bishop of Busoga Diocese.
Dr. Lubaale becomes the 4th Bishop of the diocese, succeeding Rt. Rev. Paul Samson Naimanhye, whose tenure is set to end later this year. His consecration and enthronement are scheduled for 14th December 2025 at Christ’s Cathedral, Bugembe in Jinja.
A respected academic and cleric, Rev. Canon Dr. Lubaale brings a wealth of experience in pastoral leadership, education, and community development. He has served the Church of Uganda in various capacities and is widely known for his commitment to nurturing faith-based education and youth empowerment.
The House of Bishops commended Dr. Lubaale for his humility, scholarship, and dedication to Christian service, describing his election as a “timely blessing” for Busoga Diocese.

In a statement, the Church of Uganda extended heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Lubaale and the people of Busoga Diocese, calling this a “great milestone in ministry” and a moment of renewal for the region’s Anglican community.
The upcoming consecration at Christ’s Cathedral is expected to draw hundreds of faithful, clergy, and community leaders in celebration of this new chapter in the diocese’s spiritual journey.
Rev. Canon. Associate Prof. Dr. Grace Lubaale was born on 9th October 1978, in Bugombya Zone, Butansi Parish, Butansi Sun county, Bugabula County in Kamuli District.
He received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in December 1994. He was ordained a Deacon in the Diocese of Kampala in 2008, priested in 2009 and installed as a Canon of Education and Training of All Saints Cathedral Kampala on 1st November 2024.
Rev. Canon. Associate Prof. Dr. Grace Lubaale is married to Clare Louise Atuheirwe and God has blessed them with four Children.
He holds a Doctorate of Philosophy in Development Studies, Master of Arts in Theology, Master of Arts in Development Studies and a Bachelor of Arts with Education.
Provincial Tribunal commissioned Earlier today, the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev Dr Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu commissioned the Provincial Tribunal to handle disputes within the Church.

Before being commissioned, the Tribunal underwent orientation with Justice Mike Chibita of the Supreme Court as the lead facilitator.
Members of the Tribunal include; Canon Naboth Muhairwe the Provincial Chancellor as the Chairman of the Tribunal, Bishop Prof. Fred Sheldon Mwesigwa of Ankole Diocese, Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe of North Kigezi Diocese, Bishop Pons Awinjo Ozelle of Nebbi Diocese, Bishop James Bukomeko of Mityana Diocese, Bishop George Turyasingura of East Ruwenzori and Bishop John Wilson Nandaah of Mbale Diocese.
Others are Justice Hellen Obura representing the Laity and The Very Rev. Canon. Dr. Rebecca Nyegenye representing the Clergy.
