The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) board today conducted a public hearing in Kampala, reviewing air service license applications from four local airlines. Chaired by retired deputy Chief Justice Steven Kavuma, the board heard presentations from Misk Air Limited, Air SERV Limited, Premier Services East Africa Limited, and Arasus Aviation Limited.
Three of the airlines – Misk Air, Air SERV, and Premier Services East Africa – sought renewals for their existing licenses, while Arasus Aviation Limited aimed to begin operations in Uganda. Premier Services East Africa, a subsidiary of the Madhvani Group, specifically requested to continue its flights from Kakira, primarily serving company directors and their immediate families.
During the hearing, Kavuma, speaking on behalf of the UCAA board, expressed satisfaction with the presentations made by the four operators. He emphasized that the board operates under Section 6(2) of the Civil Aviation Authority Act Cap 354, which mandates UCAA to oversee the licensing of air transport services in Uganda.
Uganda currently has 26 licensed air operators offering a range of services, including scheduled and non-scheduled passenger and cargo transport, private flights, training, and aerial services. The board’s decision on the applications is expected to impact the operational landscape of Uganda’s aviation industry.
This ongoing review is part of the UCAA’s effort to ensure compliance with aviation standards and to promote safe and efficient air transport services in the country.
