The African Energy Chamber (AEC) has unveiled its much-anticipated list of Africa’s Top 40 Movers and Shakers to Watch in 2025, featuring an inspiring lineup of trailblazers in the continent’s energy sector.
Among the honorees is Uganda’s Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Ruth Nankabirwa Ssentamu, recognized for her pivotal role in advancing the country’s energy ambitions.
The annual list, celebrated as a benchmark of influence and innovation, highlights leaders, policymakers, innovators, and corporate executives driving transformative change across Africa’s oil, gas, and energy industries.
These individuals are at the forefront of tackling challenges, promoting sustainability, and reshaping Africa’s energy narrative.
Minister Nankabirwa’s inclusion comes as she leads Uganda’s efforts to achieve first oil by 2025 through the $6 billion Tilenga and Kingfisher projects. Her responsibilities also include navigating challenges surrounding the East African Crude Oil Pipeline while balancing environmental considerations and international scrutiny.
“This list represents Africa’s brightest minds and boldest leaders. From driving infrastructure projects to creating enabling policies, these figures embody the resilience and innovation required to propel Africa’s energy transformation,” said NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the AEC.
Others on the list include;U.S. President Donald Trump, whose stance on fossil fuels and support for American companies could reshape the relationship between the U.S. and Africa,Daniel Francisco Chapo, President of Mozambique, John Mahama, President of Ghana, South Sudan’s Minister of Petroleum, Puot Kang Chol,Dr. Khalifa Abdulsadek, Libya’s Minister of Oil & Gas,Claudio Descalzi, CEO of Eni.
Also there is Jean-Michel Jacoulot, CEO of Trident Energy,Katrina Fisher, Managing Director of ExxonMobil in Angola and in the financing arena, Benedict Oramah, President of the African Export-Import Bank, is leading the establishment of the Africa Energy Bank.
The AEC emphasized that the list is not merely an accolade but a reflection of the sector’s evolving priorities, including fostering local content, addressing financing gaps, and aligning environmental and industrial objectives. As Africa’s energy landscape grows increasingly complex, these Movers and Shakers serve as role models, inspiring confidence among investors, stakeholders, and communities.
“The accomplishments and strategies of the 40 Movers and Shakers will be critical to addressing industry challenges and harnessing opportunities for the continent’s growth,” Ayuk added.
