President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed Hon. Justice Aisha Naluzze Batala as the new Inspector General of Government (IGG), replacing Hon. Beti Olive Namisango Kamya.
The appointment, announced by State House on Tuesday, was made in accordance with the President’s constitutional powers under Article 223 of the 1995 Constitution, which mandates the President to appoint the Inspector General and Deputies with the approval of Parliament.
Justice Batala, a seasoned judicial officer with years of experience in Uganda’s justice system, is expected to lead the fight against corruption and strengthen transparency and accountability in public service.
President Museveni retained the current Deputy IGGs, Dr. Patricia Achan Okiria and Mrs. Anne Twinomugisha Muhairwe, who will continue to support the leadership of the Inspectorate of Government.
The names of the appointees have been forwarded to Parliament for vetting, after which Justice Batala will formally assume office upon approval.
Justice Batala’s appointment marks a new phase in Uganda’s anti-corruption drive, with high expectations from the public for a renewed commitment to integrity and enforcement of ethical conduct in government institutions.
