President Yoweri Museveni has fired KCCA top officials following the Inspectorate of Government (IGG) report on the Kiteezi landfill disaster which claimed 35 lives.
The IGG’s report clearly outlined the severe oversight and negligence.
According to a press release from State House, the dismissed KCCA officials are; Mrs. Dorothy Kisaka, Engineer David Luyimbazi and Dr. Daniel Okello -Executive Director -Deputy Executive Director -Director of Public Health.

The Kiteezi disaster occurred after the landfill got overwhelmed by torrential rains that triggered a garbage flow, leading to a collapse of a large section of the garbage heap, which buried homes and killed several people in the nearby slum community.
President Museveni’s decision to fire the three top officials within the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) in relation to the Kiteezi disaster can be traced to broader issues of accountability, mismanagement, and the administration’s growing concerns over urban governance in Uganda’s capital.
The Kiteezi landfill, which had long been a subject of public criticism due to environmental and safety risks, became a symbol of failure in waste management, ultimately leading to the tragic disaster that claimed lives and displaced residents.
To ensure a swift transition, the President has directed the Public Service Commission to advertise the positions of KCCA Executive Director, Deputy and Director of Public Health, with a goal of appointing new officials within three months
