Kasese District Local Government, in collaboration with Baylor Uganda, has launched a series of healthcare initiatives aimed at mitigating the spread of tuberculosis (TB) within the district.
Speaking to the media at an event held in Kasese Central Division, Mr. Kisomeryo Surgeon, the TB and Leprosy Supervisor for Kasese District, shared concerning statistics. He revealed that the district registered 1,190 cases of TB last year, a figure that underscores the urgent need for action. “This high number prompted the district to request intervention from the Ministry of Health to reach villages where individuals unknowingly live with TB,” Kisomeryo stated.
Bakalyaghe Yorokam Bwambale, the in-charge of Hiima Health Center III and Assistant TB/Leprosy Supervisor for Kasese District, highlighted the transmissible nature of the disease. “TB can spread from one person to another,” he explained, “but the good news is that medicine is available at all government health facilities.”
Roset Ngunguru Musoki, a TB technical expert with Baylor Uganda, outlined plans to conduct outreach activities in targeted areas. “We have identified key locations for outreach programs to enhance early detection and treatment of TB,” Musoki said, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in addressing the disease.
The newly launched measures aim to increase awareness, improve access to treatment, and reduce the stigma associated with TB. With these steps, Kasese District hopes to significantly curb the spread of TB and improve the overall health of its residents.
