Rotary Club of Kampala Blue Hearts targets deeper community impact after reaching more than 22,000 Ugandans through healthcare initiatives
dfcu Bank and Rotary Uganda have celebrated the first Charter Anniversary of the Rotary Club of Kampala Blue Hearts, marking one year since the establishment of Uganda’s first corporate Rotary Club and the transition into a new phase of leadership and expanded community service.
The anniversary celebrations, held at the dfcu Bank Head Offices in Nakasero, Kampala, brought together Rotary leaders, dfcu Bank executives, Rotarians, strategic partners, members’ families and other stakeholders. The event was presided over by Assistant Governor Rosemary Mutyabule, who served as the Chief Guest.
Launched in 2025, the Rotary Club of Kampala Blue Hearts was established as a partnership between dfcu Bank and Rotary Uganda, bringing together employees of the financial institution under Rotary International’s global platform for volunteerism, leadership development and humanitarian service.
Over its first year, the Club has emerged as a model of corporate citizenship, with dfcu Bank committing UGX 1 billion over three years to support Rotary Uganda’s healthcare initiatives. Through quarterly medical camps and outreach programmes, the partnership has provided healthcare services to more than 22,000 people across Uganda.
The initiatives have supported screenings for diabetes, hypertension, cancer, sickle cell disease, maternal health conditions, HIV, eye care and dental health. The programme has also contributed to 22 life-saving heart surgeries for children in Western Uganda.
Speaking during the anniversary celebrations, dfcu Bank Chief Executive Officer Charles Mudiwa said the Club demonstrates how corporate leadership can be transformed into meaningful social impact.
“Leadership in Rotary is never about the title; it is about the opportunity to serve. The question is not what we accomplish this year alone, but what lasting impact our leadership will leave for generations to come,” Mudiwa said.
He added that the partnership had created a platform for dfcu employees to use their skills, expertise and resources to address community needs.
“dfcu Bank has in the past year conducted quarterly medical health camps across Uganda in partnership with Rotary Uganda. These services have reached more than 22,000 people, saved lives and improved healthcare access for thousands of Ugandans,” he said.
Mudiwa noted that the next priority would be developing sustainable health and wellness systems that continue supporting communities beyond individual outreach programmes.
During the celebrations, Bernard Kasibante was installed as President of the Rotary Club of Kampala Blue Hearts for the 2026/27 Rotary year. He pledged to build on the Club’s achievements by strengthening membership, expanding partnerships and increasing community impact.
Kasibante unveiled a five-point agenda focused on enhancing fellowship among members, delivering measurable community projects, improving Rotary’s public image, strengthening strategic partnerships and increasing support for The Rotary Foundation.
Assistant Governor Stephen Ssendi commended dfcu Bank for pioneering Uganda’s first corporate Rotary Club, describing the initiative as an example of how private sector organisations can contribute to sustainable development.
“As the Club enters its second year, the focus now shifts from establishing a strong foundation to scaling its impact, reaching more communities and creating lasting change across Uganda,” Ssendi said.
The Rotary Club of Kampala Blue Hearts represents a growing trend of corporate organisations integrating employee volunteerism and social responsibility into their business purpose, aligning commercial success with community transformation.
