Medical workers designated for the state-of-the-art Lubowa International Hospital are currently undergoing specialized training in Italy, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has revealed.
The move is part of efforts to equip the facility with highly skilled personnel to deliver world-class healthcare services once operational.
The Prime Minister made the announcement while addressing Parliament, where she also appealed for the approval of an additional UGX 53.119 billion to ensure the hospital’s completion.
According to Nabbanja, the construction works at the hospital have reached 61.8% and are progressing steadily. The facility is slated for completion by April 2025.
The Lubowa International Hospital project is envisioned as a key milestone in Uganda’s healthcare sector, promising to reduce the country’s dependence on overseas medical referrals.
The hospital, once complete, is expected to offer advanced diagnostic, surgical, and treatment options, positioning Uganda as a regional hub for healthcare excellence.
Nabbanja emphasized the need for Parliament’s support to secure the necessary funding, which will cover final construction phases and additional equipment procurement. She noted that the training of medics abroad is a strategic investment in ensuring the facility operates at international standards.
The hospital, located in Wakiso District, is part of a government initiative to bolster the country’s healthcare infrastructure. Once completed, it will include modern amenities such as intensive care units, specialized surgical suites, and diagnostic laboratories.
As the project moves toward completion, Ugandans are hopeful that the Lubowa International Hospital will address critical gaps in the healthcare system and reduce the financial burden of seeking treatment abroad.
