President Yoweri Museveni has called on leaders from the Ankole and Kigezi sub-regions to shift their focus from divisive politics to wealth creation, emphasizing the importance of social-economic transformation for Ugandans.
The President made the remarks during a meeting with local leaders at Kyamate in Ntungamo earlier today.
In his address, Museveni criticized what he termed “the politics of deceit,” urging leaders to instead guide their communities toward sustainable wealth creation.
He highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting this transformation through the Parish Development Model (PDM), which disburses 1.5 trillion shillings annually, totaling 7 trillion shillings over five years.
The President cautioned against misallocating these funds, stating that prioritizing infrastructure like tarmac roads without concurrent wealth creation efforts would be counterproductive.
“If we put all that money into constructing tarmac roads first, the wealth would not follow. We would have roads but no wealth for our people, and then we lose sight of our prioritization efforts,” he explained.
Museveni stressed that true growth begins with empowering citizens to generate wealth, which in turn drives broader economic development. His message resonated with calls for a paradigm shift in leadership, moving away from political rhetoric and toward tangible, community-focused initiatives.
The meeting underscored the government’s ongoing efforts to uplift rural economies through the PDM, with the President reaffirming his administration’s dedication to fostering sustainable development across Uganda.
