The House of Bishops of the Church of Uganda, convening at Zebra Hotel in Masaka City on 30th March 2025, has elected Rev. Canon Kugonza Joshua as the 3rd Bishop of Masindi Kitara Diocese.
Rev. Canon Kugonza will be consecrated and enthroned as the Bishop on 3rd August 2025 at St. Matthew’s Cathedral, Masindi. His election marks a significant moment for the diocese, as he brings a wealth of experience in pastoral and administrative leadership.
Born on 7th October 1976 in Kiryandongo District, Rev. Canon Kugonza’s spiritual journey began when he was born again on 13th September 1989 at Alwala Church of Uganda in Apac District, West Lango Diocese.

His commitment to ministry led to his ordination as a Deacon on 3rd January 2010, and later as a Priest on 14th December 2010 at St. Matthew’s Cathedral, Masindi.
Currently serving as the Diocesan Secretary of Masindi Kitara Diocese since 2021, Rev. Canon Kugonza has previously worked as a Parish Priest, project officer with Samaritan’s Purse, Headteacher, and teacher at Kigumba Intensive Primary School. His academic credentials include a Bachelor’s Degree in Divinity from Uganda Christian University and a Diploma in Education from National Teachers College Ngetta in Lira District, alongside various professional courses.
He is married to Mrs. Proscovia Allen Kugonza, and together they have been blessed with four children. His leadership is expected to bring spiritual growth and development to the diocese as he takes on this new responsibility.
