The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has, for the first time in its history, compiled a credible voters’ register at the village level, according to Government Chief Whip Hamson Obua.
Speaking ahead of the party’s upcoming nationwide village barazas, Obua said the register will be crucial in verifying the identity and particulars of registered voters. The barazas—community dialogue forums—will serve as a key mechanism in engaging grassroots supporters and streamlining internal party processes.
“For the first time in history, the NRM has a credible voters’ register—village by village,” Obua stated, emphasizing the party’s commitment to transparency and mobilization.
The development comes as the NRM, which has been in power for nearly four decades, prepares for future internal elections and broader political campaigns. The party leadership believes that the detailed register will strengthen its grassroots structures and enhance its capacity to mobilize support.
The barazas are expected to be held in all districts, bringing together local leaders, party members, and the public to discuss governance, service delivery, and political organization.
Observers say this move could mark a shift in how the party engages with its base, potentially setting the tone for increased internal accountability and participation.
