Richard Lumu, the Member of Parliament for Mityana South and Deputy Legal Advisor of the Democratic Party (DP), has joined presidential hopeful MP Richard Ssebamala in voicing critical demands ahead of the party’s highly anticipated delegates’ conference set for May 30.
The two legislators are calling for increased transparency and fairness in the party’s internal election processes.
Among their key demands are the immediate publication of the official delegate list, comprehensive financial accountability from the party leadership, and equal access to nomination documents for all aspirants.
In a joint statement, Lumu and Ssebamala also demanded the suspension of the vetting committee, citing concerns over impartiality, and called for an urgent National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting to ratify the election procedures. They argue that these measures are essential to ensure a credible and democratic process.
Their demands come amid rising internal tensions, as the DP prepares for what is expected to be a decisive conference that could shape the party’s future leadership.
Party officials have yet to respond publicly to the demands.
