A Special Meeting of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Parliamentary Caucus has been scheduled to take place on Monday, May 19, 2025,(today) at 2:00 PM at State House, Entebbe.
According to a notice issued on Thursday by the Government Chief Whip, Hon. Denis Hamson Obua, the meeting expected to bring together all Members of Parliament under the ruling party, is convened under the directive of the NRM National Chairperson, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
While the agenda has not yet been made public, the Government Chief Whip emphasized that the attendance is mandatory, and members are required to attend in person.
“This is a directive from the NRM National Chairperson. All members must attend. The official notice will follow in due course,” Hon. Obua stated in a brief communication issued on Thursday, May 15.
Former Leader of Opposition Mathias Mpuuga has reacted to the bill in this regard, “I’m waiting to be be convinced that these amendments speak to the command of Article 28 and 44(c). Otherwise, taking them on face value would mean that the UPDF Act,is now the supreme law of the land, and the Constitution is subordinate to the UPDF Act”.
Whereas the Leader of the Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi convened an emergency meeting as well to determine their unified response to the UPDF Amendment Bill, he has acknowledged and revealed internal disagreements within the opposition on how to approach it.
