The Democratic Front (DF) has officially endorsed former Rubaga North Member of Parliament, Hon. Moses Kasibante, as its flag bearer for the Lubaga Division mayoralty in the upcoming general elections.
Kasibante, who represented Rubaga North for two terms, was formally nominated on Saturday by the DF Electoral Commission chaired by Mr. Henry Lubowa.
He was flanked by senior party officials including National Chairman Lubega Mukaaku, Secretary General Michael Sseninde Mabike, and the Party Whip in Parliament, Entebbe Municipality MP Michael Kakembo Mbwatekamwa.
Speaking after his nomination, Kasibante said Lubaga Division had suffered years of political neglect under the current leadership, which he accused of incompetence. He pledged to offer what he described as a “second political liberation” for the division.
“Residents of Lubaga are burdened with high taxes and unfair property rates, yet they continue to grapple with poor road networks, inadequate sanitation, and a failing drainage system. These challenges persist because the current leadership has failed to provide solutions,” Kasibante stated.
DF’s parliamentary whip, Michael Kakembo Mbwatekamwa, welcomed Kasibante’s endorsement, praising him as a seasoned and reliable leader who has been adequately groomed for the role.
“We strongly believe that in Hon. Kasibante, the people of Lubaga have found both a liberator and a true leader,” Kakembo remarked.
Kasibante is expected to face off with the incumbent mayor, Zackey Mberaze Mawula of the National Unity Platform (NUP), who has come under criticism from residents branding him a non-performer.
The nomination of Kasibante sets the stage for what is expected to be one of the most closely watched mayoral contests in Kampala’s local government elections.
