Uganda has been officially announced as the next host of the Digital Government Africa Summit (DGA) 2026, a prestigious continental event that brings together policymakers, innovators, and technology leaders to advance digital governance across Africa.
The announcement was made during the closing ceremony of the 2025 Summit in Lusaka, positioning Uganda as a strategic hub for ICT innovation and public sector transformation.
Uganda’s delegation, led by Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, Minister of ICT and National Guidance, received the hosting mantle amid applause from delegates across the continent. The decision reflects growing confidence in Uganda’s commitment to e-governance, digital inclusion, and its leadership in implementing technology-driven reforms.
The successful bid was spearheaded by the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, working closely with the National Information Technology Authority–Uganda (NITA-U).

Together, they coordinated extensive engagements with the DGA Secretariat to secure the 2026 hosting rights—a move expected to yield substantial economic, diplomatic, and technological benefits for the country.
Hosting the DGA 2026, scheduled for 6th to 8th October 2026 in Kampala, is projected to attract more than 2,000 delegates, including heads of state, international technology firms, investors, and policymakers. The event will create opportunities for technology investment, capacity building, knowledge sharing, and promotion of Uganda’s digital infrastructure and innovation ecosystem.
According to Dr. Baryomunsi, the summit will serve as a platform to accelerate Africa’s digital transformation through collaboration and policy innovation. “Uganda looks forward to convening the continent’s best minds to explore how digital tools can improve governance, boost efficiency, and enhance service delivery to citizens,” he said.
The 2025 Lusaka summit, opened by President Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia, brought together over 30 African nations, global tech leaders, and development partners to discuss Artificial Intelligence, Data Governance, Digital Public Infrastructure, and Cybersecurity, in alignment with the African Union’s Digital Transformation Strategy (2020–2030).
As preparations for DGA 2026 begin, Uganda’s hosting marks a milestone in its journey to become a regional ICT powerhouse, leveraging innovation to drive inclusive growth, strengthen digital governance, and position itself as a key player in Africa’s digital economy.
