In a major move to accelerate the adoption of over-the-top (OTT) digital services across the continent, media giant CANAL+ and Samsung Electronics have announced a strategic expansion of their partnership. The collaboration will see the DStv Stream application pre-installed on new Samsung Smart TVs across 18 English- and Portuguese-speaking African markets served by MultiChoice Group.
The rollout marks the first-ever pre-installation of a MultiChoice Group streaming application on Samsung devices in these territories, building on an existing alliance between CANAL+ and Samsung that already spans 40 markets across Europe, Asia, and French-speaking Africa.
The integration directly targets changing consumer habits as connected TV adoption grows across Africa. The DStv Stream app will be accessible directly from the home screen of all new Samsung Smart TVs, removing friction for users looking to access live premium sports and entertainment.
Subscribers will have immediate access to high-profile global tournaments, including the entire FIFA World Cup 2026, the English Premier League, and major international rugby competitions, alongside a rich offering of local and international entertainment programming.
The phased rollout covers key African nations, including South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Angola, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
This partnership serves as a prominent commercial example of the strategic alignment and synergies created by the combination of CANAL+ and MultiChoice Group.
By leveraging their combined distribution network and technical infrastructure, both entities aim to drive higher digital adoption, accelerate the distribution of digital services, and significantly improve content discoverability and user experience for English- and Portuguese-speaking audiences across Africa.
David Mignot, CEO of CANAL+ Africa and CEO of MultiChoice Group, expressed great enthusiasm for the expansion, noting that it marks a significant milestone in the ongoing collaboration between the two media groups. He emphasised that as viewing habits continue to evolve rapidly across the continent, strengthening the accessibility and discoverability of their content offer on connected devices remains a primary priority.
By expanding the availability of their applications on Samsung Smart TVs across key African markets, they are making it seamless for millions of MultiChoice Group subscribers to access the unique content experiences that define the brand.
