The leadership of parliament has 14 days from 5th August 2024 to place the censure motion on the order paper.
Rule 110 of the parliamentary rules of procedure states that a motion for a resolution to remove a Commissioner shall be initiated by a notice in writing to the Clerk, signed by not less than one third of all the voting Members of Parliament, indicating their intention for moving the Motion for the removal.
Well, the movers of the motion led by Lwemiyaga County MP Theodore Ssekikubo and Aringa south MP Arioni Yorke Odria have presented a notice of censure to the clerk of parliament, Adolf Mwesige.
The movers of the motion say they have collected 189 signatures more than the required 177 and have attached evidence supporting the grounds for censure.
Since June 2024, Hon Theodore Ssekikubo had struggled to get the required number of signatures until the electorate put their legislators under pressure to sign the censure motion.
The four commissioners are Nyendo Mukungwe County MP Mathias Mpuuga, Bukooli Central MP Solomon Silwany, Rubanda Woman MP Prossy Akampurira and Zombo District Woman MP Esther Afoyochan who awarded themselves a 1.7 billion shillings service award without the parliamentary approval.
MPs; Joseph Gonzaga Sewungu- Kalungu West, Sarah Opendi -Tororo Woman MP, Alioni Yorke -Aringa South MP, Isaiah Ssasaga- Budadiri East MP, Kiboga East MP -Keefa Kiwanuka, Padyere County MP Otimgwi Isaac, Kasanda North MP, Patrick Nsamba Oshabe, Hoima East Division MP, Patrick Isingoma and others, have been key in soliciting the signatures.
The supporters of the censure motion now wait to see if the motion will be placed on the Order Paper and action taken.
