Kampala City dwellers have raised calls to the City Mayor Elias Lukwago to resign in the wake of the dismissal of three top officials by president Museveni.
Their concerns gained momentum after Lukwago appeared on a local television station accusing president Museveni of acting too slowly to fire the Executive Director, Dorothy Kisaka, Engineer David Luyimbazi and Dr. Daniel Okello , the Deputy Executive Director and Director of Public Health respectively.
“We requested the Kiteezi landfill report from the IGG but have received no response to date. The President’s directive to dismiss the three KCCA officials, including the ED, should have been implemented from day one.”
“This delay is deeply disappointing, and it’s even more troubling that the President has yet to publicly address the issue since the disaster took place,” Lukwago added.
On social media X, Mwesigwaliz says, “Lukwago should be impeached coz he is part of the problem.”
Another, Oketch Enang Eng, writes, “Actually if the president had the powers to dismiss you, he would have started with you. If problems that can’t be solved by politics, you want to apply politics. But we people of Kampala are watching closely’’.
Mario Kafuuko adds, “Lukwago must also resign. The entire useless team at KCCA must go both political and the executive.”
Relatedly, Selemba Faizo, queries, “When is the Lord Mayor resigning?”
The contents of the Inspectorate of Government’s report remain scanty and it remains to be seen how the Lord Mayor is implicated as the political head of the city.
