The plenary sitting of Uganda’s Parliament, originally scheduled for today, has been postponed until next week, October 15, 2024.
The decision comes as Members of Parliament (MPs) participate in the National Prayers Breakfast, currently being held at State House in Entebbe.
According to a communiqué from the Clerk to Parliament, Adolf Mwesige, the 24th sitting of the first meeting of the fourth session of the 11th Parliament, which took place on October 3, 2024, had previously adjourned to October 8. However, with today’s National Prayer Breakfast taking precedence, the House will remain closed until the next scheduled sitting on Tuesday, October 15, at 2:00 PM.
The National Prayer Breakfast is an annual event that brings together leaders from various sectors, including government, business, and civil society, to reflect on the nation’s challenges and seek divine guidance. This gathering is seen as a vital opportunity for unity and spiritual renewal among Uganda’s leadership.
During the upcoming plenary session, MPs are expected to address critical national issues, including ongoing economic reforms and social development initiatives. The adjournment reflects Parliament’s commitment to balancing legislative duties with national traditions and values.
As the nation anticipates the next sitting, the focus remains on fostering collaboration and constructive dialogue among lawmakers to advance the interests of Ugandans. The adjournment provides MPs with the chance to engage in meaningful reflection and prayer, emphasizing the importance of spiritual leadership in the country.
