Kilak North MP Anthony Akol has expressed doubts over how his fellow legislator, Francis Zaake (Mityana Municipality), ended up hospitalized at Nsambya Hospital.
Akol claims that he witnessed Zaake standing and active shortly after the incident, raising questions about the authenticity of Zaake’s injuries and the events that followed the scuffle.
During an interview ,Akol detailed his observations from the parliamentary brawl, asserting that Zaake was “standing and kicking the air” moments after their confrontation.
“The punch that we exchanged with Zaake couldn’t have taken him to the hospital,” Akol remarked. He went on to imply that either someone else may have harmed Zaake after the parliamentary clash, or that Zaake might be exaggerating his injuries.
Akol even displayed messages he claimed to have received from Zaake’s constituents in Mityana, allegedly praising him for confronting Zaake physically.
He suggested the MP’s hospitalization might be a result of further altercations outside the parliamentary chambers or that Zaake could be “pretending” about the extent of his injuries.
Akol questioned the condition of Zaake’s clothing, which appeared torn, hinting at inconsistencies in the events. “You see his clothes are torn – how? At what particular point did that happen?” he asked.
The incident has sparked a wider discussion around the violence in Uganda’s Parliament and the professionalism of lawmakers.
As of now, both MPs involved await potential disciplinary action pending a formal investigation.
