Prominent Ugandan legislator Muhammad Ssegirinya, also known as “Mr. Updates,” has been confirmed dead by Lubaga Hospital.
The news of his passing broke on Thursday, sending shockwaves across the nation.
According to a statement from the hospital, Ssegirinya was admitted earlier this week in critical condition. Despite efforts by medical staff, he succumbed to undisclosed complications at 12:10 PM.
The hospital’s Management confirmed the tragic development but refrained from providing further details, citing patient confidentiality.

The news of his death has left many in mourning, with tributes pouring in from political colleagues, supporters, and constituents. Robert Kyagulanyi, the NUP president, expressed deep sorrow, describing Ssegirinya as “a fearless voice for the voiceless.”
Ssegirinya, the Member of Parliament for Kawempe North, was known for his vibrant personality, passionate speeches, and commitment to grassroots activism. He was a key figure in the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) and often drew attention for his advocacy on social justice issues and better service delivery for underprivileged Ugandans.
Authorities have indicated that arrangements for an official post-mortem and burial will be announced soon. His death marks a significant loss in Uganda’s political landscape.
