Security forces on Wednesday raided the offices of the National Unity Platform (NUP) in Kavule, Wakiso District, in what authorities described as an “intelligence-led operation.”
Heavily armed police and military personnel stormed the premises in the morning, blocking access to party members and confiscating documents, computers, and other materials.
The operation also led to the arrest of 40 elders from the Teso Sub-region who had visited the office to meet with NUP leader Robert Kyagulanyi.

“The 40 elders from Teso who came to visit our offices and our leader have been arrested and are being detained at Wandegeya Police. As soon as they got into their bus to return home, the military surrounded them, took them away, and ordered them not to pick any phone call,” NUP Secretary General Lewis Rubongoya posted on X.
NUP spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi condemned the raid, calling it “an ongoing crackdown on opposition activities.”

Police later stated the operation was part of an investigation into “illegal activities,” but did not provide further details.
