President Yoweri Museveni has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to infrastructure development in Hoima, citing strategic reasons for shifting plans from the initial Akii-Bua Stadium to a new facility in Hoima.

The decision, he explained, was influenced by the area’s airport, which is already under construction.
During an inspection visit to the stadium site alongside First Lady Janet Museveni, the President praised the people of Hoima for the ongoing developments, emphasizing that these projects would significantly boost the local economy.

He also urged the private sector to invest in complementary services, such as hotels and other amenities, to maximize economic benefits.
Earlier in the day, President Museveni and the First Lady attended the groundbreaking ceremony for Bunyoro Public University in Buhimba. He extended gratitude to Canon Dr. Henry Wamani and his family for their generous donation of 100 acres of land for the institution’s construction.

In his address, Museveni challenged the people of Bunyoro to ensure that their children benefit from the new university by tackling school fees challenges. He stressed the importance of free education in government schools to prevent dropouts, particularly among children from poor families.

The President wrapped up his day with a visit to David Irumba, a Hoima-based farmer and civil servant, who has built a thriving poultry business since 2018. Irumba’s success story, generating approximately 900 million shillings annually, was cited as proof that Ugandans can overcome poverty through enterprise.

These developments in Hoima underscore the government’s push for economic transformation through education, infrastructure, and private-sector growth.
