The Newly elected Kawempe North MP Elias Nalukoola is set to receive a UGX 55 million salary for March, along with a UGX 300 million allocation for a new official vehicle.
The substantial payments come amidst growing public debate over government expenditure and parliamentary allowances.
Speaker Anita Among confirmed this during his swearing-in ceremony, directing the Clerk to Parliament, Adolf Mwesige, to ensure Nalukola receives all entitlements immediately.
“The Clerk to Parliament is directed to provide Nalukola with all his privileges as a Member of Parliament with immediate effect,” Among said.
“This includes a new car to facilitate his movement while carrying out his representation duties for the people of Kawempe North.”
However, critics argue that the high salaries and benefits for MPs are excessive, especially in a country where many citizens struggle with poverty and inadequate public services.
