A group of individuals claiming to have registered a new political party, the People Power Front (PPF), unveiled it in Kampala this afternoon. The group, led by Hajj Musa Misango as chairman, Secretary General Spartan Mukagyi, and Central Region Chairman Robert Rutaro, announced that PPF was officially registered in August 2024.
However, controversy quickly arose as PPF adopted symbols, slogans, and red berets similar to the National Unity Platform (NUP), the country’s leading opposition party. NUP, under the leadership of Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has long associated itself with the “People Power” movement.
When contacted for confirmation, the Electoral Commission’s Head of Public Relations and Spokesperson, Julius Mucunguzi, stated he was unsure of PPF’s registration status and would need to verify the details.
The development has sparked debate among political observers, with concerns over possible confusion among voters and the potential legal implications of PPF using NUP’s established identity.
NUP has yet to officially respond to the announcement.
More updates to follow as the story develops.
