President Yoweri Museveni has taken aim at a group of Opposition Members of Parliament, accusing them of selective outrage over alleged misuse of classified funds.
Museveni referenced recent complaints by the MPs, led by Hon. Muhammad Kivumbi, regarding the rumored disbursement of Shs 100 million per MP through undisclosed channels.
He criticized the legislators for focusing their energy on what he called “supposed” corruption while ignoring what he views as a greater threat — foreign interference in Uganda’s politics.
“I have one question,” Museveni said in his statement. “Dear Sirs and Madams, have you ever heard of foreign funds being sent into Uganda to influence our politics in favor of the foreigners?”
The President followed up with a challenge to the Opposition’s integrity. “If you are the anti-corruption warrior you claim to be, why have you never talked about these foreign funds?” he asked.
The statement has stirred debate on social media, with supporters applauding Museveni for raising concerns about sovereignty, while critics accuse him of deflecting from domestic accountability.
The opposition has yet to issue an official response, though political analysts anticipate a fiery exchange in Parliament in the coming days.
