The widow of Major (Rtd) John Kazoora, a former Bush War combatant and one-time Member of Parliament for Kashari, has revealed that President Yoweri Museveni personally covered her late husband’s medical bills during his final days.
During the funeral ceremony,in Kashari, Mbarara District, Hon. Naomi Kabasharira, disclosed that the President extended financial assistance at a time when the family was overwhelmed by medical expenses.
“President Museveni stepped in and paid all the hospital bills. It was a gesture that deeply touched us as a family,” she said.
Major (Rtd) Kazoora, who passed away earlier this month, was a prominent figure in Uganda’s political and military history.
He was part of the National Resistance Army (NRA) during the 1980–86 liberation struggle that brought President Museveni to power.
Despite later parting ways politically with the ruling establishment and aligning with the opposition, particularly the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Kazoora maintained a legacy of outspoken leadership and patriotic service.
The widow’s revelation has stirred mixed reactions among political observers, with some praising the President for demonstrating compassion beyond political boundaries.
Others have called the gesture a reminder of the complex personal histories shared by Uganda’s political class.
Colleagues and friends hailed the late Kazoora as a gallant soldier, a principled politician, and a devoted public servant.
Several dignitaries attended including military representatives and former colleagues in both the NRA and Parliament.
