Finance Minister and Buyanja County Member of Parliament Matia Kasaija has revealed that the upcoming general election will mark his final term in active politics.
Speaking after collecting nomination forms from the National Resistance Movement (NRM) secretariat, Kasaija confirmed his intention to seek re-election but emphasized that this would be his last time on the ballot.
“I have decided that this will be my final term. After serving my country for many years, I want to retire to my farm and enjoy a peaceful life,” Kasaija said.
The veteran politician, known for his long-standing role in Uganda’s economic planning and fiscal policy, has represented Buyanja County in Parliament for several years. His announcement comes at a time when the country is preparing for the 2026 general elections, with several seasoned politicians signaling potential exits.
“When I look at all those contesting against me, I dont think I can loose even if they are youthful,”he Kasaija remarked.
Kasaija’s declaration sets the stage for a closely watched race in Buyanja, as voters begin to weigh continuity versus change. His legacy in public service, particularly in steering the national budget and economic reforms, is expected to be a central theme in his re-election campaign.
The NRM party is currently receiving nominations as it gears up for internal primaries ahead of the national polls.
