The Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development has called upon political leaders in Masindi District to intensify their efforts in promoting and implementing physical planning initiatives.
During a sensitization meeting held at the Masindi District Council Chambers, Mr. Mutaka Swaibu, a Physical Planner from the Ministry, emphasized the critical role of political leaders in championing physical planning within their respective areas.
He highlighted the importance of integrating physical planning into local governance, noting that it helps maximize land use and promotes organized economic activities, thereby accelerating economic development.
Mr. Mutaka informed stakeholders that the National Physical Development Plan was officially approved by the President of Uganda in 2024. As a result, the country now has a structured framework comprising national, regional, and local physical plans. He noted that 17 districts currently have approved physical development plans.
He urged political leaders to not only support the implementation of these plans but also to actively sensitize communities about their benefits. Additionally, he pointed out the leaders’ role in endorsing planning-related matters during council meetings.
In response, the Assistant Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Masindi District appealed to the Ministry to allocate dedicated funds or provide a special grant to support the District Physical Planning Committee.
He emphasized that financial support would enhance the committee’s efforts to effectively mobilize and educate the public on the importance of physical planning, ultimately leading to improved livelihoods and better organized communities.
The Assistant CAO also encouraged unity among local leaders, stating that collaborative efforts would be key to achieving meaningful progress in implementing physical planning across the district.
