The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that it has commenced the evacuation of Ugandan students stranded in Iran and Israel, following heightened tensions and conflict in the region.
According to a statement released today, the Ministry began receiving distress reports from parents, relatives, and concerned citizens about Ugandan nationals trapped in the conflict zones.
In response, the Ministry activated a planned evacuation operation, engaging authorities in Iran to facilitate the safe passage of Ugandan citizens, particularly students.
“We are glad to note that Ugandan students are being evacuated from Tehran,” the statement reads.

Given the closure of airspace over both Iran and Israel, Uganda has also reached out to governments of neighboring countries—Turkey, Jordan, and Azerbaijan—requesting them to grant Ugandan evacuees gratis visas on arrival.
In addition, Uganda’s embassies in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Turkey have been instructed to provide immediate consular support. Embassy officials are being dispatched to locations where evacuees may arrive to ensure a smooth transition and facilitate their return home.
The Ministry acknowledged the logistical hurdles posed by the ongoing security situation, particularly in securing safe and reliable transportation out of the affected areas.
“We appreciate the cooperation of regional partners and remain committed to ensuring the safety of all Ugandans abroad,” the Ministry affirmed.
Families have been urged to remain calm as authorities continue working around the clock to bring their loved ones home safely.
