As Uganda gears up for the 2026 General Elections, concerns are mounting over escalating tensions and violence within the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) primaries.
Against this backdrop, the upcoming visit of renowned global thought leader Dr. Mathew Ashimolowo is being welcomed as a timely call for peace and unity.
Dr. Godfrey Kamese, Head of the Organizing Committee for Dr. Ashimolowo’s visit, has strongly condemned the violent incidents reported during the primaries—some of which have turned fatal.
He urged all political actors and supporters to embrace peaceful engagement and prioritize national unity over individual ambition.
“Uganda stands at a crossroads. We must choose peace and unity to safeguard our future,” Dr. Kamese said.
Dr. Ashimolowo, Senior Pastor of Kingsway International Christian Centre in London, is expected in Uganda from July 9 to 10, marking his first visit to the country.
His two-day program, under the theme “Inspiring Transformation in the Marketplace,” will include interactions with religious leaders, youth, and members of the business community. The main gathering will be held at the Lugogo Hockey Grounds.
Organizers believe the visit offers an opportunity for national reflection at a critical moment. “Dr. Ashimolowo’s presence is not just spiritual—it is symbolic of the kind of leadership and wisdom we need during such a defining season,” Dr. Kamese added.
As political temperatures rise, his message resonates clearly: only through peace, unity, and responsible leadership can Uganda achieve sustainable development.
With the electoral process intensifying, leaders and citizens alike are being reminded that the path forward must be guided by shared values and a common vision.
“The time is now for Uganda to stand as one,” Dr. Kamese emphasized.
