Thousands of residents on Thursday flocked to Masindi Golf Grounds to attend a campaign rally for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) intensified its vote-hunting efforts ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Supporters from across Masindi District and surrounding areas filled the venue, where President Museveni—referred to locally by supporters as Musaven—urged voters to entrust him with another term in office. He emphasized the NRM’s four key pillars: peace, development, wealth creation, and employment.
Museveni encouraged residents to use the small pieces of land available to them to fight poverty. He reiterated his “four-acre model” as a path to household income enhancement through farming, poultry, and livestock rearing. “This is the easiest and most reliable way to get out of poverty,” he said.
On service delivery, the President admitted that Masindi still faces challenges, particularly in access to clean and safe water. He noted that electricity, health services, and education have improved over the years, but require further investment.
Addressing concerns around Uganda’s oil sector, Museveni dismissed claims that government has already mismanaged oil resources. He said extraction has not yet begun and that the country’s oil reserves are projected to last at least 20 years once production starts.
Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja rallied Bunyoro sub-region to “deliver 100 percent support” for President Museveni, urging every NRM supporter to mobilize aggressively.
Speaker of Parliament Anita Among vowed that the ruling party would reclaim Masindi Municipality from the opposition, declaring that NRM is “prepared to defend its flagbearers.” She advised residents not to “waste votes on the opposition,” saying the country’s peace and ongoing development programs must be protected. Among highlighted road construction, school building, and other infrastructure works as evidence of progress under NRM.
The Speaker also announced plans to provide tractors to farmers in Masindi to boost agricultural productivity. She encouraged youth to form groups to benefit from government funding intended to lift young people out of poverty.
NRM Chairperson for Masindi, Kabakumba Masiko, said the district has benefited from major government projects, including new seed secondary schools, upgraded health facilities, and the renovation of Masindi Hospital. She urged voters to support Museveni for continued development, citing pending projects such as the construction of the Masindi Central Market.
Buruli County MP, Hon. Ronald Akuguzibwe, appealed to residents to back President Museveni in the January 15, 2026 presidential polls, and also vote to retain him as their Member of Parliament, saying he still has unfinished projects in the pipeline.
