He made the remarks on December 3, 2025, while delivering the keynote address at the Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile Annual Public Lecture held at Makerere University.

Speaking under the theme “Shaping Africa’s Future: Intergenerational Leadership, Economic Resilience & the Power of Innovation,” Mudiwa emphasized the urgent need to dismantle age-related barriers that hinder collaboration and progress.
He described intergenerational leadership as “not a favour to the youth; it’s a survival strategy,” noting that Africa stands to benefit immensely from combining the wisdom of experience with the creativity and agility of younger generations.
Mudiwa stressed that leadership rooted in both innovation and wisdom is essential for navigating the continent’s rapidly changing economic landscape. He highlighted adaptability, shared responsibility, and mutual respect as core principles required to build resilient institutions capable of delivering long-term growth.
He further emphasized that Africa’s transformation will depend on leaders who are willing to evolve, embrace diversity in thought, and empower the next generation to participate meaningfully in decision-making.
Collaboration across age groups, he noted, remains the key to unlocking fresh ideas, strengthening institutions, and positioning Africa competitively on the global stage.
The annual lecture, held in honour of the late Governor Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile, serves as a platform to interrogate leadership, financial sector reforms, and economic development in Uganda and beyond. Mudiwa’s address drew applause for its focus on unity, shared learning, and forward-looking leadership.
