Roke Telkom has partnered with the Uganda Child Cancer Foundation (UCCF), committing over UGX 30 million in publicity and connectivity support ahead of the 4th Childhood Cancer Colour Run scheduled for May 17, 2026.
The annual event, themed “Behind Every Step, A Child’s Story,” is aimed at raising UGX 250 million to support critical interventions for children battling cancer, including early diagnosis, treatment, transport assistance, and nutrition support.
Organisers say the initiative comes at a time when Uganda is witnessing a steady rise in childhood cancer cases, with new diagnoses at the Uganda Cancer Institute increasing from 700 in 2022 to 800 in 2025, highlighting urgent gaps in care and access to treatment.
Roke Telkom’s contribution will focus on amplifying awareness through media campaigns and ensuring seamless connectivity during the event. The company will also provide high-speed internet services at the run, leveraging its infrastructure to expand outreach.
“Connectivity is about more than just internet—it’s about linking people to what matters most. And nothing matters more than the health and future of our children,” said Timothy Mugenyi, Head of Partnerships and Community Impact at Roke Telkom.
For UCCF, the partnership supports a strategic shift toward immediate, life-saving interventions. Executive Director Moses Echodu said while the foundation has already raised UGX 43 million toward a long-term plan to build a children’s hostel by 2030, the current priority is ensuring children remain in care and complete treatment.
The foundation estimates the 2026–2027 campaign will directly impact more than 1,000 children.
The run will start at the Uganda Cancer Institute in Kampala, with participation open to the public through kit purchases priced between UGX 25,000 and UGX 50,000.
Organisers say the event continues to serve as both a fundraising platform and a national call to action to improve childhood cancer survival outcomes in Uganda.
