KCB Bank Uganda has successfully hosted the second edition of the KCB East Africa Golf Tournament, bringing together more than 180 golfers and business leaders from across the region in an event that blended sport, networking and environmental sustainability.
Held at the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort & Spa under the theme “Roar on the Green,” the tournament attracted participants from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi, reinforcing KCB’s strategy of deepening regional integration beyond traditional banking.
Organised in partnership with ICEA LION Insurance, Kenya Airways, CFAO Mobility and Ruby Hospital, the competition showcased golf as a platform for building business relationships while promoting East African collaboration.
Players competed in four-ball teams using the Stableford scoring format, where consistency and teamwork determined success. The tournament was open to golfers of all ages with valid handicaps and CDH registration, with participation offered free of charge except for caddie fees.
Speaking during the event, KCB Bank Uganda Managing Director Edgar Byamah said the tournament reflects the bank’s broader ambition of connecting businesses, communities and individuals across the Great Lakes region.
“At KCB Bank Uganda, we are committed to being the leading financial partner across the Great Lakes region, connecting businesses, communities and individuals with the solutions they need to thrive. The KCB East Africa Golf Tour goes beyond the fairways to build trusted relationships and regional networks that define how we do business,” Byamah said.
He added that golf mirrors banking through its emphasis on precision, integrity and long-term thinking, values the bank seeks to promote among its clients and partners.
The tournament also highlighted strong corporate collaboration. ICEA LION Insurance introduced its Clubman’s Insurance policy tailored specifically for golfers, offering protection for golfing equipment, personal belongings and third-party liabilities during play.
Kenya Airways rewarded the winning four-ball team with return air tickets to Nairobi, where they will represent Uganda at the regional grand finale later this year. CFAO Mobility added excitement by presenting a Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series as the tournament’s Hole-in-One prize, while Ruby Hospital offered complimentary medical consultation vouchers to all participating golfers, underscoring the importance of wellness in sport.
Golf Director Theodor Van Rooyen said the competition showcased outstanding teamwork and talent as Uganda’s qualifiers prepare to compete against the region’s best golfers in Nairobi.
KCB Group 1 emerged as the overall champions after posting an impressive 110 Stableford points. The winning team comprised Lawrence Kimathi, Banza Matsiko, Mark Namanya and Moses Matsiko, whose consistent performance secured victory on the challenging Serena Kigo course.
In the individual categories, Ernest Rukundo claimed the men’s title with 41 Stableford points, while Berna Musanabera won the ladies’ division after scoring 35 points.
Beyond competition, the event reinforced KCB Bank Uganda’s commitment to environmental sustainability. Ahead of the tournament, the bank planted 300 trees at Serena Kigo as part of its nationwide Go Green Campaign, which aims to plant 15,000 trees across Uganda in support of climate resilience and environmental conservation.
The tournament concluded with the signature 19th Hole All-White Party, where golfers, corporate partners and invited guests celebrated the day’s achievements through networking, live entertainment and recognition of the winning teams before Uganda’s qualifiers head to Nairobi for the East African grand finale.
With its growing regional appeal, the KCB East Africa Golf Tour is increasingly positioning itself as more than a sporting event, serving as a platform for business networking, strategic partnerships and sustainable development across East Africa
