The 27th edition of the Kinyara Golf Tournament drew significant attention to Masindi’s growing sports tourism sector on Friday, attracting more than 170 golfers from across the country to the Kinyara Sugar Golf Course.
The event, one of Uganda’s longest-running corporate-sponsored golf competitions, continues to position Kinyara Sugar Limited as a major player in sports development. This year’s tournament was supported by more than 30 sponsors, reflecting rising commercial interest in golf as both a recreational and economic opportunity.

This year’s turnout at the 27th Kinyara Golf Open has been exceptional, with over 170 talented players gracing the greens and showcasing their skills in a vibrant competition, said Mr Ravi Ramalingam, CEO, Kinyara Sugar.
Kinyara Sugar’s Public Relations Officer, Francis Mugarewa, said the tournament has become a flagship CSR activity for the factory, bringing together golfers, community leaders, and business partners.
“We have seen increased participation, including leaders who joined this edition. The tournament is part of our commitment to giving back—supporting sports, education, and healthcare within the community,” Mugarewa said.
The tournament also maintains one of the most attractive prize packages in local golf. The overall professional winner walks away with UGX 10 million, the top female golfer wins UGX 3 million, while the best amateur earns UGX 4 million, alongside several other rewards for participating golfers.

This year, David Kamulandwa clinched the top professional title, taking home the UGX 10 million cash prize. Mellon Kyomugisha emerged winner in the ladies’ category, receiving UGX 3 million, while Joseph Chinwayi secured the amateur title, earning UGX 4 million.
Kamulandwa thanked the government and sponsors for maintaining their support for the annual event, noting the rising standards of competition.
“It hasn’t been an easy tournament, but by God’s grace we made it. We appreciate all sponsors who continue to uplift golf in Uganda,” he said.
The tournament continues to grow as a signature sports business event in the Bunyoro sub-region, strengthening Masindi’s appeal as a destination for competitive golf and corporate networking.
