Marriott International has expanded its African footprint with the launch of two new properties in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, marking the company’s debut in the country.
The openings of Protea Hotel by Marriott Kinshasa and Four Points by Sheraton Kinshasa introduce globally recognised hospitality brands to one of Africa’s largest and most strategically positioned capitals.
Kinshasa, a bustling metropolis set along the Congo River and home to more than 17 million people, is a major centre for diplomacy, trade, and culture. The city’s growing economic significance and rich cultural energy make it an increasingly attractive destination for both business and leisure travellers.
Sandra Schulze-Potgieter, Vice President for Premium, Select and Midscale Brands in Europe, the Middle East and Africa at Marriott International, said the move into the DRC represents a key milestone for the company’s expansion plans on the continent.
She noted that the two hotels offer visitors and Marriott Bonvoy loyalty members new ways to engage with Marriott’s trusted service in a dynamic and underserved market.
The properties are operated by third-party management company SARV Management LLC. Karim Minsariya, Director of SAMAY Hospitality SARL, the ownership company behind both hotels, said the partnership with Marriott is expected to boost Kinshasa’s appeal, enhance employment opportunities, and strengthen local tourism.
Protea Hotel by Marriott Kinshasa is located in an upscale neighbourhood near the Congo River, surrounded by government institutions, corporate offices, and high-end shopping centres. The 88-room hotel blends modern comfort with local character, offering scenic balconies, an airy atrium lobby adorned with local art, and the city’s first indoor pool.
Guests can enjoy all-day dining at Marché 15, relax at the Lobby Bar, or access facilities such as a fitness centre and a conference room suitable for small meetings.
Four Points by Sheraton Kinshasa sits in the heart of the central business district, offering 134 contemporary rooms designed for both business and leisure use.
The hotel features the brand’s signature Four Comfort Bed, free high-speed Wi-Fi, and breakfast options tailored for travellers on the move. Its dining options include Lufira Restaurant, the 83 Sky Lounge Bar, and a selection of local beers through the Best Brews programme.
Additional amenities include a 24-hour fitness centre, a rooftop pool with city views, and roughly 230 square metres of meeting space equipped with modern audiovisual facilities.
Both hotels are fully integrated into Marriott Bonvoy, allowing guests to earn and redeem points and access exclusive benefits such as mobile check-in, elite status privileges, and curated travel experiences.
