The Bunyoro sub-region is mourning the death of Owek. Hon. Mutiti Nyendwoha Godfrey Jonathan, the former Deputy Prime Minister of Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom and ex-legislator for Buliisa County.
Leaders across the kingdom and political divide described Nyendwoha as a principled servant of God, culture and country whose life was defined by integrity, discipline and selfless service.
In a tribute, the Prime Minister of Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom, Andrew Byakutaga, said the late Nyendwoha served the kingdom diligently as a senior minister and deputy premier under the Bunyoro Kingdom Government (BKK).
“He was a custodian of our culture and values. He respected tradition not as something of the past, but as a living foundation for unity and identity,” Byakutaga said.
As a cultural leader, Nyendwoha is remembered for championing order, reconciliation and moral leadership within the kingdom. He consistently advocated for the preservation of Bunyoro’s heritage, urging communities to uphold values that strengthen families and institutions.
Beyond the cultural institution, Nyendwoha served as Member of Parliament for Buliisa, where colleagues say he distinguished himself through honest and courageous representation. He was known for his calm and deliberate voice in public life, often choosing principle over popularity.
Leaders noted that he did not seek political applause but instead focused on advancing the interests of his constituents with sincerity. “He understood leadership as responsibility, not entitlement,” one kingdom official said.
Nyendwoha was also a devoted church leader and man of faith. Those close to him say he lived his beliefs through action, emphasizing discipline, truth and compassion. Many sought his counsel, drawn by his firm yet measured guidance.
Friends and associates describe him as approachable, thoughtful and resolute — a leader who listened carefully and spoke with intention.
Kingdom officials say his legacy endures in the institutions he strengthened, the people he mentored and the cultural values he steadfastly defended.
