KCB Bank Uganda is deepening its investment in sports-driven corporate networking and regional integration with the launch of the second edition of the KCB East Africa Golf Tournament, a competition expected to attract more than 180 golfers from six East African countries.
The tournament, scheduled for June 27 at the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort & Spa, comes as financial institutions increasingly leverage golf as a platform for business development, high-net-worth client engagement, and brand positioning across the region.
Held under the theme “Roar on the Green,” the event will bring together players from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo, reinforcing KCB’s broader ambition of strengthening its East African footprint beyond traditional banking services.
Speaking at the launch in Kampala, Noela Byuma, Head of Marketing and Communications at KCB Bank Uganda, said the tournament represents more than a sporting competition.
“The KCB East Africa Golf Tour provides a unique platform for building relationships, fostering meaningful connections and bringing together people from diverse backgrounds,” she said.
The tournament is being staged in partnership with ICEA LION Insurance, Kenya Airways, CFAO and Ruby Hospital, highlighting growing corporate interest in golf as a premium engagement platform for executives, entrepreneurs and investors.
Participants will compete in four-ball teams using the Stableford scoring system, with organizers emphasizing teamwork, consistency and strategic play. Entry is free for eligible golfers holding valid handicaps and registered CDH IDs, apart from caddie fees.
The event also carries significant commercial incentives.
CFAO has placed a Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series as the hole-in-one prize, while Kenya Airways will reward the winning four-ball team with airline tickets. ICEA LION Insurance is using the tournament to showcase its Clubman’s Insurance product, which offers protection for golf equipment and personal effects worth up to UGX 4 million.
Tournament Coordinator Paul Kaheru described the competition as an emerging regional showcase for golfing excellence, while Golf Director Theodor Van Rooyen said Uganda’s leading performers will earn opportunities to compete at the grand finale in Nairobi.
Beyond sport, KCB is positioning the tournament within its environmental, social and governance (ESG) agenda.
The lender said it will continue advancing its Go Green Campaign through tree-planting initiatives linked to the tournament. Following the planting of 300 trees at Serena Kigo, the bank is working toward a target of planting 15,000 trees nationwide as part of broader conservation efforts.
The strategy reflects a growing trend among East African banks to integrate sustainability goals into customer engagement activities as environmental concerns become increasingly important to investors and regulators.
The latest edition builds on a successful inaugural tournament in which Team “On the Money” captured the overall title with 111 Stableford points. Individual honors went to Enoch Nuwagaba in the men’s category and Florence Namara in the ladies’ division.
The day’s sporting action will culminate in an all-white networking gala at the tournament’s traditional “19th Hole,” bringing together golfers, corporate partners and invited guests.
