The West Nile community is being urged to embrace digital financial solutions to enhance economic inclusion, with local leaders highlighting the potential of the Wendi mobile wallet as a transformative tool for the region.
This appeal came during the recent launch of a strategic partnership between the West Nile Private Sector Development Promotion Centre Limited (WENIPS) and PostBank’s Wendi platform in Nebbi district.
This initiative aims to connect over 7,500 Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (SACCOs) and Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) across West Nile to Wendi’s mobile financial platform.
The rollout targets districts such as Nebbi, Arua, Yumbe, Koboko, Moyo, and Adjumani, where digital financial services can play a vital role in fostering economic empowerment.

Uganda’s third National Development Plan (NDP III) underscores the importance of financial inclusion and digital literacy for sustained economic growth.
Aligning with these national objectives, the Wendi platform promises to enhance financial literacy and bolster economic resilience in West Nile by digitizing informal savings groups.
Patrick Okwi Osakan, PostBank’s Regional Distribution Head for Northern and West Nile regions, reaffirmed PostBank’s commitment to financial inclusion, emphasizing that Wendi provides underserved communities with accessible and secure savings solutions.
“With Wendi, we are empowering individuals and groups to access secure savings accounts, earn interest, and complete various financial transactions with ease,” Mr. Osakan stated.
Wendi enables users to access financial services without a bank account, making it accessible via both smartphones and feature phones. This is especially relevant for communities where traditional banking is limited, bridging gaps in financial access and offering an annual interest of 10% on savings, a significant incentive for users.
Representing the Chief Guest, the Assistant Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Nebbi, Owachgiu Donald, commended PostBank’s leadership in supporting Uganda’s 2040 Vision of ICT integration for socio-economic development.
“Platforms like Wendi empower our people with accessible financial services, enabling broader participation in national economic goals,” Owachgiu noted.
WENIPS CEO Jenaro Onegi also expressed optimism about the partnership’s impact on economic transformation in West Nile.
“This strategic alliance with PostBank aligns with Uganda’s National Economic Transformation Agenda. By leveraging digital technology, we can enhance financial literacy, security, and convenience for our members,” he remarked.
