There was drama on Sunday afternoon at the Sembabule Town Council playground in Sembabule District when Lwemiyaga County MP, Theodore Ssekikubo, was blocked from accessing the microphone during President Museveni’s visit.
The incident occurred during the President’s ongoing Wealth Creation Tour aimed at promoting economic development across the country.
According to witnesses, Ssekikubo, who has served in Parliament for 24 years, attempted to address President Museveni but was stopped by Sembabule District NRM Chairman and former Foreign Affairs Minister, Sam Kutesa.
The confrontation caused brief commotion as Ssekikubo’s supporters demanded that he be allowed to speak.
Sources indicate that Ssekikubo had planned to raise local concerns directly to the President, but tensions between him and Kutesa’s political camp may have fueled the incident.
Over the years, Ssekikubo has been known for his outspoken nature and strained relations with NRM party leadership in the district.
The long-serving MP now faces growing political pressure ahead of the next election cycle, with strong challengers lining up.
Among them are retired army officer Gen. Emmanuel Rwashande and former State Minister for Transport, Joy Kafura Kabatsi, both of whom are reportedly gaining significant grassroots support.
President Museveni, who continued with his address despite the disruption, urged leaders in the district to focus on service delivery and economic transformation, warning against internal divisions that could undermine party unity and development efforts.
