MTN Mobile Money Uganda has partnered with Letshego Uganda and dfcu Bank to introduce two new loan products aimed at improving access to working capital for mobile money agents across the country.
The dfcu Bank Weekend Agent Loan and the Letshego Agent Loan Float are the latest additions to the MoMo Agent Loans Marketplace and support MTN’s Power To Be More campaign, which seeks to strengthen digital and financial inclusion nationwide.
The launch marks a major step in boosting the liquidity of thousands of mobile money agents who play a crucial role in Uganda’s digital financial ecosystem. By offering flexible, instant credit solutions, the partners aim to help agents maintain sufficient float, manage peak transaction periods, and deliver uninterrupted customer service.
The dfcu Bank Weekend Agent Loan provides agents with emergency working capital between Friday and Sunday, when mobile money activity typically spikes. Through a simple USSD code, #165*53#, agents can access between UGX 1 million and UGX 5 million instantly, with repayment due in three days.
The loan requires no collateral and is available strictly over the weekend to support agents during high-demand hours outside regular banking operations.
The Letshego Agent Loan Float offers agents short-term financing throughout the week, allowing them to borrow between UGX 50,000 and UGX 5 million by dialing 1655*2#.
Borrowers can choose repayment terms of seven or fourteen days at interest rates of 3 percent and 4 percent respectively. The loans are disbursed instantly, come with no collateral requirements, and carry no penalties for early repayment.
MTN MoMo Uganda Chief Product Officer Jemima Kariuki said the initiative reinforces the company’s commitment to expanding financial inclusion and strengthening agent liquidity. She noted that the new solutions will help agents deliver seamless digital services even beyond normal banking hours.
Letshego Uganda CEO Giles Germany Aijukwe highlighted the importance of fast and reliable access to float for agents who serve as everyday entrepreneurs in the digital economy. He said the partnership with MTN is enabling agents to stay active, grow their income, and provide better customer service.
dfcu Bank CEO Charles Mudiwa said the collaboration aligns with the bank’s broader mission to transform lives through innovative financial solutions that support SMEs and deepen financial inclusion. He emphasized that the Weekend Agent Loan will help agents sustain operations and serve customers more effectively.
The new loan products underscore the partners’ shared goal of empowering mobile money agents with timely, flexible financing that strengthens their resilience and supports Uganda’s growing digital economy.
