In a landmark development for the professional marketing community in East Africa, the Uganda Marketers Society (UMS) has successfully executed its formal leadership transition.
The official handover, which took place on May 30, 2026, at the Protea Skyz Hotel in Naguru, marks the successful completion of the 2024–2026 leadership cycle and underscores a renewed institutional commitment to sweeping governance reforms.
The event brought together vital stakeholders, including UMS Founding Members, the Board of Directors, members of the CIM/UMS Advisory Council, and the outgoing Secretariat.
This gathering served a dual purpose: it was a platform to reflect upon the operational and strategic milestones achieved over the last two years and a legal mechanism to return the formal stewardship of the Society back to the Board, in strict compliance with its Memorandum and Articles of Association.
The transition initiates a critical 60-day governance reform window that commenced on June 1, 2026. During this period, the Board assumes full legal custody of the organization to steer the final phase of its structural modernization.
The immediate roadmap includes finalizing constitutional amendments, submitting approved legal revisions to the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB), and preparing structural procedures for upcoming leadership nominations ahead of the next Annual General Meeting (AGM).
Speaking on the milestone, UMS Board Chair Pamela Abonyo emphasized that the handover represents continuity, accountability, and shared responsibility. She reiterated that the leadership team remains fully committed to completing the transition in a manner that safeguards corporate continuity and serves the best interests of the general membership.
A central theme driving these aggressive updates is the total reinforcement of member representation, positioning individual marketers directly at the heart of the corporate architecture.
Backed by extensive professional governance advisory support, the ongoing reforms seek to bring clearer lines of internal authority, transparent electoral processes, and institutional resilience.
To preserve operational continuity, UMS has reassured its partners and general membership that all scheduled programs, services, and corporate engagements will run completely uninterrupted throughout this interim period.
Daily activities remain under the active management of the Administrative Secretariat, ensuring that Uganda’s premier professional marketing body transitions smoothly into its next chapter of sustainable growth and regional influence.
