Sebei cultural leaders have called on the government to enhance security along the borders between Sebei and Karamoja to promote peace, unity, and social-economic transformation among the Sabiny people.
Speaking at a community gathering, the leaders expressed concerns over increasing tensions and insecurity along the border, which have affected trade, farming, and overall development in the region. They emphasized that strengthening security would not only prevent conflicts but also create an environment where both communities could coexist peacefully and benefit from economic opportunities.
“We need the government to prioritize border security so that our people can engage in trade and agriculture without fear,” one of the cultural leaders stated.
The call comes amid reports of cattle rustling and sporadic clashes between communities in the area. Local leaders believe improved security infrastructure, including more police presence and community policing programs, will help curb criminal activities and foster better relations between the two regions.
Government officials have acknowledged the concerns and promised to work with security agencies to address the issue. They have also urged both communities to embrace dialogue and cooperation to ensure lasting peace.
