Thai hospitality group Dusit International has appointed Marc Handl as Managing Director of Dusit Thani Bangkok, signaling a strategic push to strengthen leadership at one of its most high-profile redeveloped assets.
Handl will oversee not only the flagship hotel—located overlooking Lumpini Park—but also the adjacent residential components, Dusit Residences and Dusit Parkside. Both form part of the broader Dusit Central Park, a major mixed-use project combining hospitality, branded residences, retail, office space and a rooftop park in central Bangkok.
His appointment comes at a pivotal time for Dusit, following the reopening of Dusit Thani Bangkok in September 2024 after an extensive redevelopment. The group is now moving into the next phase of the project, including the rollout of its residential offerings—an increasingly important segment as hospitality brands diversify into real estate-led revenue models.
Handl brings over three decades of global hospitality experience, having held senior leadership roles across luxury and upscale brands including Park Hyatt, The Ritz-Carlton, Aman and Rosewood Hotels & Resorts. His career spans Asia, the Middle East and the Americas, with a strong focus on managing complex, mixed-use hospitality assets.
With a professional foundation in food and beverage, Handl has built expertise across operations, sales and marketing, and multi-property management—capabilities that are increasingly critical as hotel operators seek to integrate lifestyle, residential and commercial offerings within single developments.
He joins from Abu Dhabi National Hotels, where he managed a portfolio of multi-brand properties, gaining experience in asset management and large-scale operational oversight.
Industry analysts note that his appointment reflects Dusit’s intent to align the repositioned Dusit Thani Bangkok with evolving global traveller expectations, particularly as competition intensifies in Bangkok’s luxury hospitality segment.
Commenting on his new role, Handl said the opportunity allows him to build on the legacy of the iconic property while contributing to its next phase of growth within the city’s dynamic hospitality market.
The Dusit Central Park development is widely seen as a flagship for the group’s future strategy—blending hotel operations with branded residences and lifestyle infrastructure—at a time when integrated developments are becoming a defining trend across major urban tourism hubs.
The appointment comes as Dusit accelerates a dual-track strategy—repositioning legacy assets in Asia while expanding into high-growth frontier markets, particularly in Africa. The group has steadily built a footprint on the continent, with operational properties and pipeline developments targeting key business and tourism hubs.
Dusit’s African portfolio includes Dusit Princess Hotel Residences Nairobi, a mixed-use development combining hotel and residential offerings in Nairobi, as well as dusitD2 Nairobi, which has positioned the brand within the region’s upscale hospitality segment.
The company has also signalled interest in expanding into additional markets such as Rwanda and Egypt, leveraging rising demand for internationally branded hotels and serviced residences.
Analysts say Africa’s growing middle class, increasing intra-African travel and a pipeline of infrastructure projects are making the continent an attractive frontier for Asian hotel groups seeking long-term growth.
